Darius Miles and Kazuhiro Sasaki Cards

I went to a garage sale today and found two cards that I couldn't pass up. Here they are:

Name: Darius Miles (Shorts)

Set: 2002-2003 Fleer - Jersey Heights

Gotten From: Garage Sale

My Rating: 6/10

Another card for my former-Blazers collection, and my first card with a piece of the player's shorts in them. Darius Miles isn't one of my favorite Blazers of all-time, but this is a pretty cool card, especially to be found at a garage sale, so it gets a six.

Name: Kazuhiro Sasaki

Set: 2002 Upper Deck Diamond Futures - Ovation

Gotten From: Garage Sale

My Rating: 5/10

Kazuhiro Sasaki is one of my favorite Mariners ever, but his card receives receives just a mediocre rating because of the boring gray swatch. However, the overall look of the card is very nice, with a full picture of Sasaki in his All-Star uniform.

Next 5 List: Scottie Pippen

I've been adding a few cards on my want list throughout the past week, and today I got the Alex Rodriguez card I had been eying. Now it's time for a new addition. To recap, here was my old top four:

And for my new addition:

I like relic cards with pieces of the basketball inside them (See Jeff Pendergraph), so I'm really hoping to get this Pippen card. The small swatch of ball has one of the black stripes on it running across the middle, making it extra cool. This is definitely a card I want for my collection!

Alex Rodriguez Card

I received a Jacoby Ellsbury card in my first batch of mail this morning, and I just got the Alex Rodriguez card I have been waiting for from FedEx. Here it is:

Name: Alex Rodriguez

Set: 2004 Donruss - Shirt off my Back

Serial Number: 66/75

Gotten From: Ebay.com

My Rating: 9/10

My former-Mariner collection continues to grow, this time with a four-color A-Rod jersey. Even though white is the dominant color here, it has nice descending-in-size stripes of black, red, and blue. The only reason I didn't rate this higher was because I feel like I'm giving all of my multi-color cards 10's now!

Next 5 List: Edgar Martinez

Earlier today I got the number one card on my want list, so now it is time for a new addition. To recap, here was my old top four:

And for my new addition:
This was the only three-color Edgar jersey I could find on the internet, and now I want it badly. I'm a sucker for the Mariner jersey cards that have some Teal in them, and this is no exception. The fact that it is numbered to 50 is just icing on the cake.

Jacoby Ellsbury Card

Here it is, the card I've been targeting for the past few weeks!

Name: Jacoby Ellsbury

Set: 2007 Topps All-Star Futures Game Authentic Patch

Serial Number: 91/99

Gotten From: Ebay.com

My Rating: 10/10

I've been waiting for this card for a while, and at first glance, it was worth the wait. As you can see in the picture of Ellsbury, the orange-black-white swatch was taken from his Futures' Game jersey (Was Orange and Black because San Francisco hosted the game), but it is a cool coincidence that those were also his college colors.

I don't think this counts as a rookie card, since Ells was drafted in 2005 and played his first full minor league season in 2006, but it is a MLB rookie, since he first played for the Red Sox in '07.

Maybe my rating system is getting too soft since I have had a few cards now that have been 10 out of 10's, but a three color swatch from one of the best Beaver baseball players of all-time definitely deserves a high ranking.

Next 5 List: Jay Buhner

By now you are familiar with my "Next 5" posts, so let's just get right into it. Earlier today I got the number two card on my list, so now it is time for a new addition. To recap, here was my old top four:

And for my new addition:

Jay Buhner is one of my favorite Mariners of all-time, but unfortunately I could only find a couple of his relic cards. This one is the best that's out there, with three slighlty different shades of color on the piece of bat. Overall, a nice card that would be a great addition to my collection.
