Darius Miles and Kazuhiro Sasaki Cards

I went to a garage sale today and found two cards that I couldn't pass up. Here they are:

Name: Darius Miles (Shorts)

Set: 2002-2003 Fleer - Jersey Heights

Gotten From: Garage Sale

My Rating: 6/10

Another card for my former-Blazers collection, and my first card with a piece of the player's shorts in them. Darius Miles isn't one of my favorite Blazers of all-time, but this is a pretty cool card, especially to be found at a garage sale, so it gets a six.

Name: Kazuhiro Sasaki

Set: 2002 Upper Deck Diamond Futures - Ovation

Gotten From: Garage Sale

My Rating: 5/10

Kazuhiro Sasaki is one of my favorite Mariners ever, but his card receives receives just a mediocre rating because of the boring gray swatch. However, the overall look of the card is very nice, with a full picture of Sasaki in his All-Star uniform.

Next 5 List: Scottie Pippen

I've been adding a few cards on my want list throughout the past week, and today I got the Alex Rodriguez card I had been eying. Now it's time for a new addition. To recap, here was my old top four:

And for my new addition:

I like relic cards with pieces of the basketball inside them (See Jeff Pendergraph), so I'm really hoping to get this Pippen card. The small swatch of ball has one of the black stripes on it running across the middle, making it extra cool. This is definitely a card I want for my collection!

Alex Rodriguez Card

I received a Jacoby Ellsbury card in my first batch of mail this morning, and I just got the Alex Rodriguez card I have been waiting for from FedEx. Here it is:

Name: Alex Rodriguez

Set: 2004 Donruss - Shirt off my Back

Serial Number: 66/75

Gotten From: Ebay.com

My Rating: 9/10

My former-Mariner collection continues to grow, this time with a four-color A-Rod jersey. Even though white is the dominant color here, it has nice descending-in-size stripes of black, red, and blue. The only reason I didn't rate this higher was because I feel like I'm giving all of my multi-color cards 10's now!

--Connor

Next 5 List: Edgar Martinez

Earlier today I got the number one card on my want list, so now it is time for a new addition. To recap, here was my old top four:

And for my new addition:
This was the only three-color Edgar jersey I could find on the internet, and now I want it badly. I'm a sucker for the Mariner jersey cards that have some Teal in them, and this is no exception. The fact that it is numbered to 50 is just icing on the cake.

--Connor

Jacoby Ellsbury Card

Here it is, the card I've been targeting for the past few weeks!

Name: Jacoby Ellsbury

Set: 2007 Topps All-Star Futures Game Authentic Patch

Serial Number: 91/99

Gotten From: Ebay.com

My Rating: 10/10

I've been waiting for this card for a while, and at first glance, it was worth the wait. As you can see in the picture of Ellsbury, the orange-black-white swatch was taken from his Futures' Game jersey (Was Orange and Black because San Francisco hosted the game), but it is a cool coincidence that those were also his college colors.

I don't think this counts as a rookie card, since Ells was drafted in 2005 and played his first full minor league season in 2006, but it is a MLB rookie, since he first played for the Red Sox in '07.

Maybe my rating system is getting too soft since I have had a few cards now that have been 10 out of 10's, but a three color swatch from one of the best Beaver baseball players of all-time definitely deserves a high ranking.

Next 5 List: Jay Buhner

By now you are familiar with my "Next 5" posts, so let's just get right into it. Earlier today I got the number two card on my list, so now it is time for a new addition. To recap, here was my old top four:

And for my new addition:

Jay Buhner is one of my favorite Mariners of all-time, but unfortunately I could only find a couple of his relic cards. This one is the best that's out there, with three slighlty different shades of color on the piece of bat. Overall, a nice card that would be a great addition to my collection.

--Connor

Brent Barry Card

I just got the number two card on my "want" list today! Here it is:

Name: Brent Barry

Set: 2009-2010 Topps Championship Materials

Gotten From: Ebay.com

My Rating: 6/10

Overall, this isn't the best card I've ever gotten. The pieces of jersey are small and just plain black, even though it does look kind of cool incorporated with the orange basketball. But, it is one of the best Beaver Basketball players of all-time, so that helps its rating.

Ken Griffey Sr. makes his way onto my "Next 5" List

Like I said a couple weeks ago, I always have a list of the next five cards I want. I just got number three on my list, so it's time for a new addition. To recap, here was my old top four:

And for my new addition:

This is the only three-color Griffey Sr. card I could find, but I like it a lot. I'm not sure where the red on the jersey comes from, but it could come from his hat, which would make this card incredibly special.

Either way, it is a great addition to my "Next 5" list!

--Connor

Randy Johnson Card

I got my first card in a couple of weeks today, and it is one of my best one's yet. Here's the breakdown:

Name: Randy Johnson

Set: 2008 Upper Deck Premier Patches

Serial Number: 30/57

Gotten From: Ebay.com

My Rating: 10/10

This is now in a three-way tie for my favorite card along with the Kevin Gunderson and Steven Jackson. It features five different colors (Black, Gold, White, Purple, and Teal), he is a former-Mariner, and there is only 57 made. It's not the rarest in my collection, but it has the most colors.

Overall, a great card that really increases the value of my collection!

Ken Griffey Jr. makes his way onto my "Next 5" List

Like I said a couple weeks ago, I always have a list of the next five cards I want. I just got number one on my list, so it's time for a new addition. To recap, here was my old top four:

And for my new addition:

Sticking with the former-Mariners theme, I love this three-color Griffey Jr. jersey. Any time there is more than one color on the swatch it is basically a must-have with me, and it is the same with this one. It is also numbered out of 25, making it super-rare.

Make sure to check back in the coming days for a contest!

Steven Jackson Card

A couple weeks ago I pegged this as my number one card that I wanted and I was lucky enough to get it off Ebay. Here it is!

Name: Steven Jackson (Rookie)

Set: 2004 Fleer Hot Prospects Double Team - College and NFL Jersey (Red Hot)

Serial Number: 5/10

Gotten From: Ebay.com

My Rating: 10/10

This is by far the best card of my collection. Being a huge Oregon State fan, an Orange, Black, and White swatch from his playing days at OSU is the best someone can get. A rookie card and a low serial number is just icing on the cake.

With only 10 of these being made, this is by far the rarest card in my collection. Overall, a great card!

Make sure to check back in the coming days for a contest!

Miguel Tejada Card

I won this card on Listia last week and just received it in the mail. Here's the breakdown:

Name: Miguel Tejada

Set: 2007 Upper Deck Sweet Swatch Memorabilia

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 6/10

This is a nice looking card, but the piece of jersey isn't very exciting. Tejada was/is a great player though, so that helps it's value. Overall though, a mediocre card. At least it was free!

Keep checking back over the next few days for a contest!

5 Cards I'm Looking At

In my mind, I always have a top five board for the next cards I want. Now that I have a blog, I might as well share them with you. Here they are:

First on my list is this Steven Jackson rookie. This is an amazing card, with four colors of jersey, including a Orange-Black-White swatch from his playing days at Oregon State. The card is numbered to 10, making it super rare and valuable.

Next is this three color Jacoby Ellsbury jersey. Jacoby was one of the best Oregon State baseball players of all-time, so to get a Orange, Black, and White swatch would be huge for my former-Beaver collection. The piece of jersey won't be from his actual Oregon State jersey, but from his 2007 Future's Game Jersey. Still, a very cool card.

Third on my list is this Brent Barry card. He is also a former Beaver, which makes the orange and black piece of jersey even better.

This is an amaing card. It features FIVE COLORS from Johnson's uniform while playing with the Diamondbacks, including Black, White, Gold, Purple, and Teal. It is also numbered out of 57, making it pretty rare. All around, this would be a great card for my former Mariners collection.

Last on my list is this four-color Alex Rodriguez card. Even though white is the dominating color in this card, there are black, red, and blue stripes making this extremely cool. I would love this for my former-Mariner collection.

So, there they are. Make sure to check back in the coming days for a contest!

A Big Card Day

Seeing as I haven't gotten an actual card in a couple of weeks (Busy with the blog, work, etc.), I decided to go out yesterday and get a couple of cards.

I went to my two favorite card stores, Legends and Baseball Cards and More, and got a card from each. Then when I got home and checked the mail, there were two more cards waiting for me! Here are my new additions:

Name: Gary Payton - Boston Garden Seat Card

Set: 2001 Topps Heritage - Authentic Arenas

Gotten From: Legend's - Clackamas, Oregon

My Rating: 8/10

I know the picture is awful, so you'll just have to trust me when I say that this is an awesome card. It's got a picture of Payton in his Sonics jersey with a two-color relic of a seat at the old Boston Garden. The only reason that I don't rate this higher is because it's kind of confusing.

It says on the back of the card that Payton played in the Garden once a year from 1990-1995. Okay, I still think it's weird that they have a relic of the Garden on a Payton card, especially since the card was made in 2001 and he didn't play with the Celtics until 2004, but whatever, it's cool.
Name: Jeff Pendergraph - Jersey and Ball Card (Rookie, Autograph)

Set: 2009-2010 Absolute Memorabilia - Rookie Premier Materials

Serial Number: 496/499

Gotten From: Baseball Cards and More - Portland, Oregon

My Rating: 9/10

This is a great card. A red jersey and a black jersey with a piece of ball in-between, an autograph, a rookie card, a former Pac-12 player and Blazer, and a serial number. This is only my third autograph, my second two-jersey card of one player, and my first ball-relic card.

Overall, a nine rating is much deserved.
Name: Roberto Alomar - Bat Card

Set: 2011 BB Series 1 Diamond Anniversary - Topps 60

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 7/10

Bat cards are always nice, especially from a player like Alomar. Plus, it's another card for my "Topps 60" collection.

Name: Ryan Howard - Bat Card

Set: 2011 Topps Baseball Heritage - Clubhouse Collection Relic

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 7/10

I've got the same feelings on this one as I did on the Alomar card. The piece of bat is nice, and the old-school design of the card is nice as well.

28 of 28: Miscellaneous

Here's a look at my 11 miscellaneous jersey cards. This will be my final post on my current collection, and after this we will get into the next cards I should add, plus some contests!

Name: Matthew Stafford (Rookie)

Set: 2009 Donruss Football Threads - NFL Rookie Jersey Collection

Gotten From: Target - Portland, Oregon

My Rating: 8/10

I like this card for a few reasons: One, it's the only jersey card I've ever pulled out of a pack. I don't go "pack-searching" like some people, so this is a pretty rare feat for me. Second, it's a rookie card of a great quarterback, and third, it's got a nice piece of his blue jersey. Overall, a great card.

Name: Chad Johnson

Set: 2007 Donruss Leaf Rookies and Stars

Gotten From: Amazon.com

My Raing: 6/10

There's nothing very special about this card, besides for the bright orange piece of jersey. Johnson is one of my favorite NFL players, but this is a pretty mediocre card.

Name: Dontrelle Willis

Set: 2008 Upper Deck Sweet Swatch Memorabilia

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 6/10

Another mediocre card. I do like the pinstripe down the middle, but a Willis card isn't as great as it was a few years ago.

Name: Chauncey Billups/T.J. Ford

Set: 2009-2010 Upper Deck Dual Game Materials

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 7/10

This card just has a "cool" look to it. I love Ford's purple jersey, and it goes together nicely with Billups' white swatch. It's also my second card of the "Dual Game Materials" set, so overall it gets a solid ranking.
Name: Willis McGahee

Set: 2009 Donruss Certified

Serial Number: 57/100

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 7/10

This is tied for the rarest card in my set, but that's really the only reason I like it. The purple swatch is nice, but I like Ford's light purple above more than this dark purple piece.
Name: John Lackey

Set: 2011 Topps BB Series 2 Diamond Anniversary - Topps 60

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 4/10

I got this card for free, but it's the worst card in my collection. Lackey isn't exactly a great pitcher and the white piece of jersey is boring. It is one of my four "Topps 60" cards, so that's good.
Name: Lance Berkman

Set: 2007 Upper Deck Essential Elements - Authentic Dual Memorabilia

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 6/10

I'm not a huge Berkman fan, and the pieces of jersey are boring, but it is a dual card, so that ups its value a little bit.

Name: Stephen Drew - Bat Card

Set: 2010 Topps Allen & Ginter's

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 7/10

This is the first card in my collection that features anything but a jersey, but I like it a lot. The card had a great look to it and Stephen is my favorite Diamondback, so this gets a solid ranking of seven.

Name: Taylor Griffin (Rookie)

Set: 2009 Panini Rookies & Stars - Dress For Success

Serial Number: 93/299

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 8/10

This is one of my favorite cards, even though it features a pretty bad player. First of all, he is Blake Griffin's brother, so that's cool. Second, it's a rookie card. Third, it is kind of rare as it is numbered to 299, and finally, it has a nice bright piece of orange jersey. Add those up and Griffin gets a rating of eight.
Name: Kevin Gunderson (Autographed)

Set: 2005 USA Baseball National Team

Serial Number: 51/100

Gotten From: Ebay.com

My Rating: 10/10

Here it is, the prize of my set. I don't have a Beckett account, so I can't look up the prices of my cards, but if I had to guess I would say this is only worth a few dollars. That doesn't matter to me though.

First of all, Kevin Gunderson went to the same high school as I go to now (Central Catholic), and he also went to Oregon State, my favorite university. This is his card from when he pitched for the 2005 USA Baseball team, along with his opening day jersey, a red signature, and it is only numbered to 100, making it tied for the rarest card in my collection.

So, maybe it's only worth a few dollars, but for a Central Catholic-Oregon State-Jersey Card-Red Autograph-Serial Number fanatic like me, it is priceless.

Name: Shin-Soo Choo

Set: 2011 Topps BB Series 1 Diamond Anniversary - Topps 60

Gotten From: Listia.com

My Rating: 5/10

It's kind of a letdown looking at this card after my Gunderson one, so this only earns a rating of five. There is nothing special about it, except that the gray jersey looks okay. A lot better than just plain white.
